Course Report
The Edged Weapon Awareness Course took place on the 5th July. Gordon Hogg took us through common knife attacks and defence strategies that we initially practiced with a partner in a “calm controlled” atmosphere. We were then subject to repeated attacks in a more “high stress” situation. (exercises were used to raise fatigue and pulse rates prior to attacks). We then had the opportunity to practice defences using full power strikes to the attacker who was wearing a full body protective suit. The course finished off with a series of role playing scenarios that felt quite real when you were involved in them. The day concentrated on employing ‘S.P.E.A.R.’ , the ‘B.L.A.G’ and ‘A.A.A.’ systems. If you want to know what these are, come to the next knife awareness course! The course turnout was low, but everyone attending thoroughly enjoyed the day and learned a great deal. A big thank you to Gordon for passing on his knowledge and expertise.
